Tirana, the stunning capital city of Albania, is a rapidly developing commercial centre and tourist destination. It's nestled between Dajti Mountain in the east and the dramatic Ionian and Adriatic coastlines and you can look from the city across to some of the Greek Islands.

In Tirana there are plenty of museums to explore, including the Natural History Museum and Museum of Natural Sciences, the Archaeological Museum and the Gallery of Fine Arts. There are also monuments from the country's communist past throughout the city, some more controversial than others. Most notable is the bizarre monument, museum and cultural centre called the Pyramid that celebrates Enver Hoxha, Albania's communist leader between 1944 and his death in 1985.
There are also the historic attractions of the Mosque of Ethem Bey, built in 1789 and the Clock Tower in the centre of the city as well as the 18th-century bridge of Tabakeve along the Zhan Dark Boulevard.
