Waves of the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is a city on the Australian Queensland coast, approximately 94 kilometres south of the state capital Brisbane. A famed tourism hub, it is little surprise that there is a wide range of attractions to appeal to every visitor.

You can go surfing or visit theme parks and those wanting to explore further afield have just a short drive into the nearby mountain range.

For Gold Coast car hire, pick up at Gold Coast International Airport Coolangatta (OOL), the sixth-busiest airport in Australia. There is a variety of onward travel options but a car is perhaps most useful to visit the many beaches, the city and the interior.

The city has a number of renowned areas and districts that draw crowds throughout the year. The suburb of Surfers' Paradise is the Gold Coast's tourism and entertainment centre, featuring both high-rise buildings and the famous surfing beach, which was voted one of the best in the world. It attracts thousands of tourists each year for water sports such as parasailing, jet-skiing, sailing and snorkelling as well as surfing.

South of Surfers' Paradise is Broadbeach, home to one of Queensland's largest shopping malls as well as a casino, surf school and a number of events and festivals. Another popular Gold Coast suburb and surfing hotspot is Main Beach, located on the shore opposite the populous business district of Southport.Surf rescue on the Gold Coast

In the city, visitors should also take time to visit the numerous theme parks. Sea World offers a variety of themed rides, shows and marine attractions, including a shark lagoon and dolphin nursery. Next to this is Warner Brothers Movie World, a movie-related theme park and the only one of its kind in Australia. Here tourists can enjoy a number of rides and attractions and visit the active film studios on site.

There are many other local attractions to enjoy. Hinze Dam, also known as Advancetown Lake, not only provides most of the fresh water to the Gold Coast but is additionally a popular recreation facility used for boating, fishing, horse and bike riding.

The Gold Coast is blessed with a good road network, allowing easy travel not only within but also beyond the city where there are lots of top resorts with parking facilities. Visitors can even go ballooning for an all-encompassing view of city, sea and countryside. With fantastic weather all year round, it is an ideal place to enjoy the outdoor life.

To the west of the Gold Coast are the Great Dividing Range mountains, also known as the Gold Coast hinterland. Lying within this is Springbrook National Park, a part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia. Another park famous for its wildlife and waterfalls is Lamington National Park.
