Santorini (also called Thera or Thira locally) is one of the Cyclades Islands of Greece and has long been popular with British holidaymakers. The island is volcanic and boasts its own volcano in addition to some stunning scenery, which has not gone un-noticed by many television and film makers (many scenes from the Angelina Jolie movie Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life, were filmed on Santorini).

Santorini is a relatively small island but Santorini car hire will allow you to get out of your resort and visit many of the different villages dotted around the island and see many more of the things that this beautiful island has to offer.

The islands capital Fira, on the western side of Santorini, is a busy town by day with cafes, restaurants and a variety of shops which comes alive by night offering many bars and nightclubs. The nightlife in Fira (and in fact the nightlife across Santorini) can be described as classy and casual.

One thing you should definitely use your hire car to see is the sunsets from Oia. Located right on the northern tip of Santorini, Oia is famous for the spectacular sunsets and views of the submerged volcano it offers and draws visitors from all over the island come dusk. Other things to do in Santorini include visiting the ruins of ancient Thera, enjoying boat tours around many of the neighbouring islands, taking a tour of one of the islands wineries or dropping in one of the museums documenting Santorini's historical past.
