Compare the best South Africa car hire

South Africa is a huge tourist destination with a range of wonderful sights for visitors. It also has a number of international airports which make it an easy place to get to. Car rental is an excellent way to see more of this vast country.

Why go?

Car hire is widely available in South Africa and makes it easy to travel around the country, visiting the many towns and cities on offer...

Visitors can choose to arrive in a number of cities, including Johannesburg and Pretoria. Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg is perhaps the busiest airport in the country. Cape Town (CPT) and Durban (DUR) are also popular gateways. South Africa car hire can be arranged from all these airports.

The cities are cosmopolitan and have great tourist amenities. Getting out of the cities is essential for holiday makers, though. The Eastern Cape, for example, featuring the Drakensburg Mountains, has a huge diversity of landscapes. The huge Kruger National Park is wonderful for those who love seeing wild animals in their natural habitat. Cape Town is the capital of the Western Cape and is also where you can see Cape Point and travel to Robben Island.

Other popular visitor destinations are East London and Sun City. You can fly to East London (ELS) and it is a pleasant place to spend a few days. If it is resort living and casinos you want, then Sun City is Africa's premier destination.

Three great driving routes

There are some great driving routes on offer:

Route 62, for example, goes from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth, though it is also possible to fly to Port Elizabeth (PLZ).

The Garden Route is a coastal road. It passes through the beautiful Plettenburg Bay before arriving in the Tsitsikamma Forest. The Outiniqiua Pass makes a worthwhile detour from the Garden Route.

A trip to the Cape Winelands in the Western Cape is another great driving tour that many visitors enjoy. Take in the wine villages such as Stellenbosch or divert south and take in Cape Point and Boulders Beach.
