Sunset over a city in Sweden

As Sweden's third-largest city and one which is famous for its tranquillity and wide-open spaces, Malmö has evolved to become a cultural melting pot with spectacular architecture, modern attractions and a thriving cultural scene. Visitors have the option to explore Malmöhus Castle, which dates from the 15th century, or to brave the dizzying heights of the ultra-modern Turning Torso.

When visiting Malmo, car hire is very useful as it makes getting around and exploring this beautiful region much easier.

As well as the excellent museums and galleries, Malmö also boasts historic buildings such as St Peter's Church, which was erected in the 14th century and is the oldest structure in the city. Featuring an ornate nave and tower and fine examples of flying buttresses, it is a great example of a well-preserved Gothic building.

Children will be thrilled to visit Folkets Park, a delightful recreational space which has animals, fun amusements and plenty of space to play, as well as an ice-skating rink in the winter.

There are excellent transport links such as the Öresund Bridge and good road and rail networks, making it possible to get from Malmö city centre to the centre of Copenhagen in Denmark in as little as 35 minutes. Car hire in Malmo Sturup is widely available, in the city itself or at Malmö Airport (MMX), so visitors have the opportunity to travel to the beautiful surrounding countryside and villages as well. Malmö Airport is situated 30 km southeast of the city and is just 25 minutes from the city centre.

Malmö is always a pleasant destination but the summer months in particular are an ideal time to visit as temperatures are higher with little rainfall. You can also enjoy Malmö's glorious Blue Flag beaches, located on the coast at Öresund, during the summer. The most popular are Klagshamn, Ribersborgsstrand, Scaniabadet and Sibbarp.
