A beach in Bournemouth

Bournemouth is a seaside resort located in the picturesque county of Dorset. Famed for its seven miles of award-winning beaches, as well as its architectural delights such as Corfe Caste, the town draws in thousands of visitors every year. This south-coast resort is served by Bournemouth Airport (BOH), which is just four miles to the north. For travel in and around Bournemouth car hire is usually the easiest method.

Bournemouth is famous for its beach huts, which are colourful little structures that line the beaches. They are ideal for those who enjoy swimming and surfing and can be rented for a small fee. Surfing enthusiasts will love Bournemouth, as the resort has an artificial surfing reef for year-round waves.

The town has more to offer than just surfing, however. For those who love to shop, a trip to Castlepoint & Castlemore, 3 miles outside Bournemouth, is a must.

Because car hire in Bournemouth is so readily available, visitors can easily take day trips to see the sights in the surrounding areas. One very popular spot is Stonehenge. Thought to be more than 4500 years old, this heritage site is about a half an hour's drive from the town. Not far from Stonehenge, you'll find New forest, which is a truly beautiful spot, perfect for tranquil walks in the forest glades.

Christchurch is also well worth a visit. Here you'll find a castle, a priory and lots of pretty walking trails. Other small towns near Bournemouth include Shaftsbury and Swanage, both of which have some lovely cafes, cobbled streets and quaint pubs.

You can't take a trip to Dorset without visiting the 'Jurassic Coastline' at Purbeck. The views of the ocean are spectacular, the beaches are idyllic and the cliffs are full of delights for fossil hunters.
