St Mary's Church in Luton

Located in Bedfordshire, Luton is considered by some to be significant only as a gateway into the UK and London, being only 30 miles north of the capital.

However, there is much more to this town than meets the eye. The name Luton is thought to come from the Saxon 'Lea ton', meaning town on the river Lea. You can see evidence of Luton's ancient past at the Luton Museum where finds from Waulud's Bank, a Neolithic henge, are displayed.

Flying into and out of the UK via Luton (LTN) can often be a wise move as airport taxes and flight costs often end up being lower than other London airports. Flying into Luton can also make car hire a more affordable option, which is a must since many of the nearby major attractions, including Woburn Safari Park, are within driving distance.

Although associated mainly with the airport these days, Luton is a town with a wealth of culture and includes a number of historical sites, including, Knebworth House, Hatfield House and Waltham Abbey.

The airport provides easy access to car hire in Luton and means that those arriving by air can dispense with the need for transfers or having to wait for public transport connections. With a hire car, it is easy to get to historic St Albans, High Wycombe, Stevenage and Aylesbury and it makes exploring the beautiful Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire countryside much easier.

You can, of course, visit attractions in other cities comfortably by covering greater distances with a hire car and using, for example, the A6 road and the M1 and M25 motorways to travel to London. Knowing you've got the best price for Luton car hire means all the more savings to enjoy and put to good use elsewhere.
