How to get there

This South American country enjoys daily flights into the capital Buenos Aires from the UK...

British Airways is the only carrier offering a non-stop service to Buenos Aires taking just under 14 hours to make the journey across the Atlantic.

There are of course various options you can consider through European gateways such as Madrid with Iberia, Frankfurt with Lufthansa and Paris with Air France. Additionally TAM (based in Brazil) operates daily flights from London via Sao Paolo or you could even consider a flight via the USA with American or Delta, however these do take longer.  Connecting flights take upwards of 16 hours to make the journey.

Be aware that when flying onwards in Argentina, most domestic flights operate from the city airport, which requires a transfer of up to one hour form the international airport.

Getting to and from the airport

Public transport is excellent at most Argentinean airports, but double check if you're on a small internal flight...

On flights to Buenos Aires you'll arrive at Buenos Aires Ezeiza Ministro Pistarini International Airport (EZE) - the key arrival point into the country from overseas. The Argentinean capital is also served by Jorge Newbery Airport (AEP), the main hub for internal flights.

Argentina has several other airports providing access to popular tourist destinations, including Bariloche Teniente Luis Candelaria (BRC) in the lakes region, Mendoza El Plumerillo (MDZ) for the wine regions and Cordoba Pajas Blancas (COR) for Cordoba, the country's cultural capital.

You'll also find the airports of Ushuaia (USH) on the island of Tierra del Fuego, Puerto Iguazu (IGR), which is close to the famous Iguassu/Iguazu Falls, and El Calafate (FTE), which is close to the national parks and glaciers in the south of the country.

The main airports are connected by bus services into the cities and towns they serve. There are also taxi ranks and car hire facilities. Bear in mind that, at some of the smaller airports, you may need to arrange onward transport in advance of your arrival.

Where to stay

The choice of hotels in Argentina mirrors the diversity of the country itself...

Buenos Aires hotels range from spectacular five-star suites in the fashionable parts of town, to the less salubrious back streets that will relieve you of only a few pounds a night. However, Buenos Aires has such an enormous selection of mid-range hotels that the competition keeps prices low.

Elsewhere in the country, competition isn't as rife, and you may find that you're paying slightly above the going rate you might enjoy in the capital. This is particularly noticeable near popular tourist hotspots such as Iguassu Falls but, even then, you can expect four-star luxury at a reasonable price.
