Known as the Emerald Isle for its lush green interior, the Greek island of Corfu has been a haven for holidaying Brits for some years and the shine simply cannot be taken off this jewel of the Mediterranean Sea.
From the heights of its mountainous interior, down through old-world villages and on to the sparkling shoreline where tourist resorts of varying sizes cater for visitors, the island is certain to please families, groups and couples looking to enjoy some famed Greek hospitality - not to mention a good dose of sunshine.
Flights to Corfu take around three and a half hours from the UK and arrive into Corfu Airport (CFU), which also acts as a gateway to holidays in neighbouring Ionian Islands.
Taxis, buses and car hire are the options for transfers to your resort from the airport if you haven't opted for a package holiday and coach transfer.

There are many tourist resorts on the strangely shaped island of Corfu (think a smaller Italy, with a slightly broken leg) and nowhere is too far away from the airport, which is smack in the middle of the east coast.
Corfu Town offers an interesting holiday, with the Old and New Towns contributing differing perspectives for visitors.
On the east coast are the beaches and resorts of Benitses, Kontokali, Dassia, Nissaki and energetic Ipsos.
In the north you'll find Sidari, Roda and Kassiopi, while out west are Paleokastritsa, Glyfada, Arillas and St George, also known as Agios Georgios. Also in the west is delightful Pelekas, which is renowned for its spectacular sunset views.
Party capital Kavos is on the island's south coast.
Distractions from the beaches and bars include watersports, sailing, mountain biking, hiking and golfing. The Achilleion palace, in Gastouri, was built by an Austrian Empress and is a worthwhile day trip. Scenes in 'For Your Eyes Only' were filmed here. If it's good enough for James Bond...
Corfu flights are frequent during the spring, summer and autumn, though you'll have to fly via Athens (ATH) if you wish to visit the island during winter.
