Zante, otherwise known as Zakynthos, is a part of the Ionian Islands, just off the west coast of Greece.
With its beautiful beaches, peaceful and charming villages like Alykanas and the thriving night life of Laganas, there is something here for everyone.
The beautiful golden sand beaches are one of the islands main attractions and with so many to choose from it is easy to find your own quiet space. Great resorts include Kalamaki, Tsilvi, Alykes and Agios Dimitrios, though there are many more.
Shipwreck bay or Navagio beach lies close to Anafotira village. This stunning beach is only accessible by boat due to the high cliffs and is famous for the shipwreck of a boat in the bay. Whilst the terrain to the north of the island is quite mountainous, the southern area gives way to many glorious sandy beaches.

The famous blue caves, or blue caves of Volimes lie on the west coast by the pretty village of Volimes. These rock formations reflect the light and colour of the water and are a popular tourist site. This is also where you can see some of the few Carella Turtles, who come to the beaches to lay their eggs in the sand.
Visit the salt pans and stunning lakes, or the fascinating St George Gremon monastery; for a great day trip away from the island you can cross the Ionian Sea to visit Olympia and the Temple of Zeus. This seasonal, summertime island offers a great mixture of hotel based and self-catering holidays, with some resorts now offering all inclusive holidays.
