National Kosovo Museum (Martijn Munneke)

Kosovo is a small country and former Yugoslavian state located to the north of Macedonia, the east of Albania and the south of Serbia.

Highlights of Kosovo include the many churches and mosques found across the country as well as the Brezovica Ski Resort and the historic city of Prizren. Kosovo has a rich and fascinating past which can be experienced at every turn.

All Kosovo flights land at Pristina International Airport (PRN), located some 18 kilometres to the south west of the capital city. It's about a 30-minute drive to the city centre from the airport. Buses leave the airport regularly heading to the Grand Hotel in Pristina. Taxis can also be caught from the airport 24 hours a day.

In Pristina you can visit the National Kosovo Museum, which houses many ethnographic artefacts within this spectacular heritage building. Pristina is also home to a number of mosques, including the celebrated Faith Mosque. Close to Pristina is the Grancania Serbian Enclave, which includes the 14th-century Grancania Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

To the south of Kosovo is Pirzren, a city with a rich history and culture which is also located right next to the Sar Mountains National Park. The northern tip of the Sar Mountains is where you will find the Brezovica Ski Resort. Many visitors take flights to Kosovo to enjoy the Alpine skiing at Brezovica.

Other major cities include Mitrovica and Pec. Driving to the northern city of Mitrovica should take just under an hour and cars can be hired from the airport. Mitrovica highlights include its communist industrial heritage. Pec, also known as Peja, is home to the Pec Patriarchy, a beautiful Serbian Orthodox Church. 15 km south of Pec is Decani, where you can visit the famous Visoki Decani Monastery and enjoy the clear waters of the Decanska Bistrica River.
