Sunny day on Los Angeles boulevard

Compare the best Los Angeles flights

Welcome to LA - the city of Angels. Los Angeles is located on the magnificent west coast of the USA and in the heart of the sunshine state of California. However, LA is much more than high glamour and body-perfect beach babes and surfers. There's great food, wine and culture too!

There are numerous sights around Los Angeles, most revolving around the infamous film industry associated with the district of Hollywood.

On Hollywood Boulevard you'll find Grauman's Chinese Theatre, where Hollywood's biggest ever stars are immortalised in cement (well, their footprints and handprints anyway) and where the A-list and their fans gather for film premieres. Further along the boulevard you can tread the Hollywood Walk of Fame, stepping from star to star. Tours of the palm-tree-lined avenues where the stars live are touted here too.

The famous Sunset Strip is worth seeing for its flashy brashness and rich suburb Beverly Hills is where you can get your mitts on designer goodies in Rodeo Drive.

On LA's extensive coastline, the California gold rush means running to reach the lovely sands at beaches in the vicinity of Santa Monica and Venice Beach.

There are world-famous studios to visit, including Universal and Warner Brothers, and if you organise yourself in advance you can bag tickets to see a live show being recorded. It is a fitting experience in a city that earns its dollars off the back of the big and small screens.

For sportier pursuits, book tickets to see the LA Dodgers and get to grips with the rules of baseball, or watch 'soccer' at the home of LA Galaxy where you might even get a glimpse of David Beckham, the most famous football player in the club's history.

For one of the best views of this vibrant, diverse and tantalising city, try Mulholland Drive. You might just spot one of the residents of the area; you guessed it, a Hollywood star.

Diverse ethnic communities throw intense flavours into the mix and high culture can be found at places like the J. Paul Getty museum at the Getty Center.

Remember, there is a big driving culture in the States and especially in Los Angeles. Fancy a fly-drive trip? Or how about hiring a fun convertible and hitting the highway? Go for it - everyone's a star in LA-LA Land!

Getting to and from the airport

Los Angeles is a busy city so booking your transfer in advance is advised. Luckily, public transport is very reliable... Read more

Plan carefully, as LA's road network is notorious for traffic jams during rush hours. Buses, taxis and city shuttles are also available at the airport.

When traffic is at its peak, consider hopping on the Metro to reach your hotel from the airport - this is good advice during your holiday too as the Metro runs underground and stays fast and efficient, even when the roads above are snarled up with overheated drivers.
