Nowhere is the allure of the Cote d'Azur as irresistible as it is in gorgeous, elegant Nice. Flash sports cars, expensive yachts and designer boutiques are standard, but a rich tapestry of art, architecture and culture also hangs beautifully in this popular destination.

Why go?

There are plenty of reasons to book holidays in Nice...

Soak up the sun on the French Riviera with walks beside the Bay of Angels on city breaks to Nice. Palm trees, flowerbeds and elegant seafront esplanades line Nice's four-mile curve of beach. In the Old Town, jumbled terracotta roofs hide seafood bistros and Aladdin's cave antique shops. Billionaires' yachts jiggle at their moorings in the port, beneath the cliff-top ruins and gardens of Le Chateau.

This postcard image is exactly what you'll find on the sunny Cote d'Azur. But in Nice, holidays go so much deeper than the perfect sheen that coats the surface. Visit world-class museums and get a taste of France in the restaurants and bistros that dot the city. Get off the main roads, strolling past baroque churches and narrow alleyways where laundry hangs from upper floors, and find an eatery that is buzzing with locals - a sure sign that it's going to be good.

And when you've been satisfied that Nice is a multi-faceted destination, dive into the glamour and enjoy the good life. Lounge on the beach, sip Champagne at sun-down, stay in fabulous five-star hotels and dream of staying forever.

What to do?

It might come as a surprise, but Nice is a great destination for all members of the family and there's plenty to see and do...

Kids and teens: Hire loungers and enjoy the sun on Nice's beautiful, long pebbly beaches. Kids will love pottering about, collecting different shaped pebbles and paddling in the azure waters.

Romance: Take a romantic stroll around the Matisse Museum to see the famous artist's flowing lines of dancing nymphs and paper cut-outs of flowers and fruit. The Marc Chagall Museum is also worth a look.

Shopping: Sniff out the flower market in Cours Saleya, and hunt for vintage bric-à-brac in the antiques stalls.
Active types: Make like the sporty locals and strap a pair of roller blades to your feet. The Promenade des Anglais will whizz by as you see the seafront at speed.

Free and cheap: Tour the narrow streets of Vieux Nice, also known as Old Nice or Old Town, and follow your nose to find lovely little markets. Away from the tourist hordes, it won't cost much to sit outside a café - sipping a coffee and watching the world go by.
