Los Cristianos is situated on the south coast of Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands. This Spanish archipelago has a volcanic history as fiery as the locals' lust for life and the year-round great weather of the Canaries means it is an eternal favourite with sun-seeking Brits.

Los Cristianos is a large and bustling resort. With mountains as a backdrop, palm trees in every direction, and hundreds of yacht masts nodding on the waters, Los Cristianos paints a pretty picture of life in Tenerife.

If hot party nights under the stars are more your glass of sangria, stroll along to neighbouring Playa de las Americas, which can really shake its tail feather come nightfall.

Los Cristianos is a good-value holiday destination all year round. Average daytime temperatures during the winter months stay above 17C, though evenings can be cool and a little rainfall should be expected.

Spring and autumn are great times to visit, with hot days and warm evenings minus the crowds of July and August, when peak temperatures of 30C+ bring battalions of bronzed bodies to the island's beaches.

What's on?

Take a running jump into the famous Spanish party spirit when you attend one of these top annual events...

Carnaval; February/March: The island capital, Santa Cruz, puts on the hottest carnival party of all of the Canary Islands. It takes an hour by road to reach Santa Cruz. Los Cristianos, however, arguably has the best carnival in the south of Tenerife, so you needn't go anywhere to experience the wild parades, crazy fancy dress and wonderful family atmosphere of this celebrated annual event.

Arona Summer Festival; August:
From your peaceful base in Los Cristianos you can walk to the Antonio Dominguez Olympic Stadium in nearby Playa de las Americas to attend this dance-music festival. Tickets are hot property, so get organised in advance if you plan to be a part of the jumping throngs.

Santisimo Cristo de la Salud; September/October:
Take a journey into the hills above Los Cristianos to the town of Arona. Here, traditional festivities such as music, feasting and dancing surround the celebrations in honour of the Holy Christ of Health.

What to do?

There is much to see and do in and around Los Cristianos... the hardest part is leaving the comfort of your sun lounger...

Kids and teens: Holidaymakers aren't the only ones keen to enjoy the warm waters of Los Cristianos - dolphins and whales also live in the Atlantic Ocean around Tenerife and boat trips can be organised to take a closer look at these magnificent creatures.

There are two beaches to choose from in Los Cristianos: Playa de Los Cristianos and Playa de las Vistas. The larger (Los Cristianos) features a play area and water sports, and both beaches boast gentle, shallow waters that are perfect for young paddlers.

Active types:
The highest peak in Spain looms into view when you fly into Tenerife. Adventurous travellers can take a hike up Mount Teide - all 3,718 metres of it. You'll need a permit for the very top and at least seven hours to manage it, or you can walk smaller sections and make use of the mountain cable car for longer stretches. It will be an unforgettable adventure, however you choose to do it.
