Where is hot for 2012

Brits have had a rough time in 2011 with many even choosing to stay here in the UK on their holidays; however our research shows that more and more of us want to get away next year on a break.  In fact a recent survey we undertook indicated that more of us are determined to enjoy a holiday in 2012 than ever. Whatever the economy can throw at us.

So where are we going to be heading?

PIIGS - No we have not spelled PIGS incorrectly. PIIGS represent Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain. Despite economic turmoil in these Euro countries, tourism was on the up in 2011 as hoteliers, restaurateurs and shopkeepers slashed prices to encourage in visitors from abroad.

We love to return to countries we know well and trust when times are tough so we forecast that Spain, with its islands in the Canaries and
Balearics will take a bigger share of the British holiday market in 2012. So if you are inspired by TV to get down to Benidorm on the Costa del Sol or Marbella with the TOWIE stars, or to have a great family break on Menorca or Majorca, there is a huge range of resorts and holiday experiences to find in the country.

The Portuguese Algarve will also offer great value and expect to see lots of great prices for Greek holidays, from basic room only all the way through to high end spa style hotels.

If you want to self cater then head to Spain and Portugal for the best overall value, followed by Greece then Italy.

METTs - This one stands for Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey. Holidays to the North African trio took a hammering in 2011 due to domestic unrest; however bargain seekers were able to find a continuous stream of great deals to the three during the year. And these bargains are set to continue into 2012 with all inclusive holidays offering some of the best values as these countries fight to win the tourism pound back. The Red Sea area including Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada still offer superb deals and good quality breaks.

Turkey has been seeing a rise in the cost of living and this has pushed prices up in resorts. However all inclusive holidays make Turkey are really affordable destination across all hotel categories.

Bulgaria - this continues to be one of the most sought after destinations for self catering and hotel based stays. Value is great, prices remain low and you can pick from a range of resorts

Florida - this remains firmly embedded in the British market and is deemed as a safe destination offering excellent overall value for money. While APD and increased fuel costs may have added to the price of holidays in the last couple of years; these have been offset by a stable exchange rate along with falling prices in the Orlando and wider resort areas.

The Wizzarding World of Harry Potter is fully open and is just one of the many attractions to add to Disney and Universal in this world class tourist destination

Las Vegas and New York - again firm favourites with Brits who want to sightsee, shop and be entertained. Both will remain strong with Brits this year.

Spanish Caribbean including Mexico, we love a bargain break and the charter led destinations of Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Aruba add to the mix of good value resorts for us to go on our 2012 holiday
 

Thailand will start to come back again after the recent floods and we will see a steady return to normal service for holidaymakers across the country. Phuket and Pattaya will continue to receive huge numbers from the UK along with Koh Samui and a range of additional resorts.

Goa and the Maldives offer some Indian Ocean magic, again both doing well. Goa offers a great value holiday destination across all price ranges and holiday types. Maldives is more expensive and driven by all inclusive.
