Waves crashing on beautiful in Patong Beach, Phuket, Thailand

Book Patong Beach holidays to enjoy the best of Thailand's beaches and sunshine, while revelling in a lively nightlife scene.

Patong Beach is the main resort on the holiday island of Phuket, on the west coast of Thailand, and is the ideal destination for days spent on gently shelving white sands with dips in the Andaman Sea and evenings enjoying a plethora of clubs, bars and shows.

If you enjoy beach holidays, you are truly spoiled in Patong Beach as there's more than three kilometres of sugary soft sands on which to lay your towel. Soaking up the sun's rays while your cares drift away on the breeze is the most popular activity here, but for those looking for a bit more action, diving, sailing and other watersports are on offer.

You can reach the island of Phuket direct from the UK, with flights into Phuket International Airport (HKT). You'll be greeted by some of the warmest welcomes in the world: Thailand isn't called the Land of Smiles for nothing.

After reaching your accommodation, of which there is a wide range - from budget options to high-end luxury hotels - you'll find a busy resort that bustles with locals and fellow holidaymakers.

The well-developed resort front is lined with restaurants, shops, bars and cafés but it's by night that this happening resort truly bounds into neon-lit life. From karaoke bars, to shows featuring Thailand's famous lady boys, the entertainment on offer here is wide ranging and at times outlandish, but most visitors will agree that it's always fun.

Night markets also jostle for attention with the drinking establishments and you can haggle to negotiate a deal if you fancy taking home local crafts or cheap clothes. The markets that line the streets of Phuket Town are also worth exploring if you want to bag some holiday bargains.

There are plenty of options for fun in the areas surrounding Patong Beach too. Opportunities to ride elephants can be found nearby, and there are some spectacular dive sites in this part of the world for keen divers to discover.

Ferries operate to the nearby Phi Phi Islands, for a more relaxed slice of beach life in Thailand, or you could find peace on a kayak in the simply stunning Phang Nga Bay.

Heat and humidity is present throughout the year at Patong Beach. Daily average temperatures rarely drop below a balmy 27C, though the humidity eases from December until April. The monsoon season runs between May and October although storms are mostly short.

Songkran; April: Prepare for a thorough soaking at this annual ritual when locals throw water at each other - and visitors - in a time-honoured tradition. It used to be that sprinkling people with water wished them luck - there must be a lot of luck around here as the amount of water sloshing about the streets has certainly risen.

Patong Carnival; November: This is the start of the high season, when the weather is at its finest, so locals celebrate with a fun mix of competitions, parades, shows and markets.

Loy Krathong; November: This is a beautiful tradition that sees small boats, which have been decorated with flowers and candles, being floated on any body of water - even the sea. Most hotels take part in this event, which provides for a magical sight and some wonderful photographs.
