Near Old Paphos is the popular seaside site of Petra-tou-Romiou, known as the mythical birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of beauty and love. Today, there are still remains relating to this legend, including Venus Rock and the Baths of Aphrodite, making this an extremely popular beach area.

Temperatures soar in mid-summer, with early and late summer, spring and autumn all being popular months to visit the island. Paphos is also an ideal destination to catch some winter sun, benefitting from a Mediterranean climate. Visiting Paphos at any time of year will allow you to enjoy the intriguing mythology, ancient history, charming outdoor eateries, breath-taking views and stunning beaches that the area is so well known for.

The region hosts many festivals throughout the year, including the Anthestiria Flower Festival that heralds spring's arrival with magnificent flower floats parading the streets to the old harbour, where festivities continue. The Aphrodite Festival is held every September, with open-air celebrations and opera in the castle square.
