Receiving your train tickets

With TrainGenius.com, you can choose to receive your tickets by:

  • Collecting them from a Ticket on Departure (ToD) machine at any one of almost 1,000 stations nation wide
  • Royal Mail First Class Post
  • Royal Mail Special Delivery™ Next Day
  • Coming soon - Print@home and Mobile tickets (on some routes)

Collecting your tickets from a Ticket on Departure machine

You can collect your tickets from almost 1,000 National Rail stations that have "Ticket on Departure" machines.

  • Collection is free

Collect your tickets any time before your train leaves (allow at least 15 minutes after booking online for the tickets to be available)

  • Collection typically takes less than a minute, if there is no queue (you will need to allow longer at certain times of the day, especially during peak hours)
  • You can opt to collect your tickets from any station that has a Ticket on Departure machine (it does not have to be the station you start your journey from, although this will be the default if the station has Ticket on Departure facilities).

Please note:

  • You MUST take the credit / debit card that you used to buy your tickets online with you to collect your tickets from the Ticket on Departure machine
  • You MUST take the 8-digit booking confirmation with you, to enter into the Ticket on Departure machine in order to retrieve your tickets (please note that an email from TrainGenius.com with the booking reference on it is not sufficient to travel by itself - you do need to allow sufficient time to collect your tickets)
  • You MUST check that the Ticket on Departure machine has dispensed the correct number of coupons to cover the complete booking, including supplements and seat reservations. Please ensure that you have received your collection receipt, as this is the last coupon to be printed. Any problems should be raised immediately with local station staff.

Please also be aware that, if you plan to collect your tickets very early in the morning or late in the day, the station booking office (where Ticket on Departure machines are usually located) may be closed, preventing access to the Ticket on Departure machine.

If the Ticket on Departure machines are not working, please collect your tickets from the station booking office instead (you will still need the same credit / debit card that you used to make your booking and the 8 digit booking confirmation code). If the station does not have a booking office, or if the booking office is closed, please contact us

Royal Mail First Class Post

Tickets can be posted to you by Royal Mail First Class Post, providing you book five or more working days before your outward journey**. If you are booking closer than this to your outward journey, then this option will not be available.

Delivery by Royal Mail First Class Post costs £1.70 and your tickets will arrive in an unmarked envelope, together with a copy of your journey itinerary.

Please ensure that you enter your name, address and postcode correctly to ensure speedy delivery.

If you have not received your tickets after five working days, please contact us.

Please note that we can only deliver tickets to UK addresses (including the Channel Islands and Isle of Man). Delivery to addresses outside the UK is not possible and you should use the Ticket on Departure option instead.

If you are booking high value tickets (greater than £500 in total) then the Royal Mail First Class Post option will not be available and delivery will instead be via Royal Mail Special Delivery™ Next Day, which has greater insurance cover than First Class Post.

**Please note that in cases of extreme weather, you may have to allow more time for delivery or it may be wise to consider whether Ticket on Departure is a more appropriate option for your journey.

Royal Mail Special Delivery™ Next Day

If you book your tickets two or more working days before travel**, then you will have the option of having your tickets delivered by Royal Mail Special Delivery™ Next Day.

Providing you book on a working day before 2 p.m. then your tickets will be delivered* before 1 p.m. the next working day.

Royal Mail Special Delivery™ Next Day costs £8.50 and your tickets will arrive in an unmarked envelope, together with a copy of your journey itinerary.

*The Royal Mail Special Delivery™ Next Day service will deliver before 5.30 p.m. for some Aberdeen, Inverness, Perth, Paisley, Kilmarnock, Kirkwall, Hebrides, Shetlands and Guernsey postcodes. For a very small number of islands delivery may take longer.

Please see the Royal Mail Special Delivery™ Next Day website for full details. Please note that we can only deliver tickets to UK addresses (including the Channel Islands and Isle of Man). Delivery to addresses outside the UK is not possible and you should use the Ticket on Departure option instead

If you have not received your tickets within the times outlined on the Royal Mail website, please contact us.

**Please note that in cases of extreme weather, you may have to allow more time for delivery or it may be wise to consider whether Ticket on Departure is a more appropriate option for your journey.
