Re: Is it worth backpacking around Oz in June?

my son is planning a backpacking trip. He'll be leaving in August so I was starting to gather information for him. He has been fascinated with Sidney since he was a young boy & is finally going. What's the weather like in August? He planned on just bringing cash, not t/c's. I figured that was a fine idea since everytime I've traveled with both, I ended up wishing I just brought all cash. He'll be traveling all around so any further information yous could provide would be appreciated!!!

    Cheers ... luggage tags

Also, departing to Oz in May is often the cheapest month!

Winter is the perfect opportunity to visit the "tropical" north. I went scuba diving and snorkelling from Cairns in July. Theres lots of fellow travellers around and the days and nights are more bearable. Even the NT would be worth a visit at this time of year. The nights will be cold, especially in inland NSW and VIC, so better to be by the coast.

The budget airlines jetstar and virginblue have good deals for going a long distance. eg Syd-Bris for about $70 or £30.

    Hello!!

I went backpacking to oz oct-apr so was there most of the summer. From what I have heard there are backpackers around oz 365 days of the year (so you won't be alone). Even though it is the winter, it will still be really good weather, with you being able to do things in much more comfort than in the summer. If you are there in the winter head for the snowy mountains and get some snowboarding in, there will also still be surf courses up the east coast (spend most of your time on that coast...it rocks!!). I went by myself but through a company called http://www.bunac.org/, where you meet a ruck load of people and they organise work visa for you (if you want to work there)

To be very brief I did the following -

Sydney - Byron (Doing a surf course)

    Fraser Island

    Whitsundays

    Cairns

    Red Centre

    Great Ocean Road

    Melbourne

I missed out the west coast, but I do intend to go back there someday to experience the 'real' Australia.

    Enjoy it!!!!!

Is it worth backpacking around Oz in June?

Hi, I am looking too go backpacking around Oz in June 2008. This is the only months I can actually go.

I am aware that it is winter in Australia, however I was wondering do many other people actually backpack in the winter months. I am travelling alone, so I am looking to meet other travellers whilst there.

Is it worth my while travelling in June??
