Re: How to hire a car in Spain without a credit card

    hi

i have had the same problem myself but i have found a company that will take debit card carjet.com find the car you want then go to the booking page, you need to choose the pay via fax option. this will send you a form to print and fax to them with the option of credit card or debit card. i also phoned them just to make sure this was ok. the only other thing you have to pay for is the fuel, you pay for this when you collect the car at the airport ( also with your debit card ), it comes with a full tank which you have to pay for but you must take it back empty as you get no refund for unused fuel.

p.s your debit card has to be a visa debit.

p.p.s the price you see on the screen is what you pay ( no extra deposit, i have booked a 5 seater car £167 and thats it )

    hope this helps everyone

Re: How to hire a car in Spain without a credit card

Hi, I had the same problem. But dont listen to the nay-sayers, it can be done!

I ordered a credit card specifically to hire a car in spain but it didn't arrive in time.

I contacted lots of companies, and had success with two.

I managed to book with just one days notice, a vehicle from Torremar Car Hire. It seems to be run by British Ex-Pats. They were perfectly happy to rent out a vehicle without a credit card. I paid with cash and used a maestro debit card as a security deposit. They met me promptly at Malaga airport and the car was waiting in the drop off zone outside.

I also had the offer of another car, from Dragon Car Hire, who, were a little more reluctant, but were kind enough to shop around to see if they could find me a vehicle. They found a car, but at such short notice, all they could offer was a more expensive class of vehicle. This is why in the end I went with Torremar.

I read this thread when I was searching for car hire, which is why I'm updating it with my information to help travellers in the future.

I don't personally like the idea of being told I have to have what is essentially a device designed for regular debt to go about my day to day life!

Re: How to hire a car in Spain without a credit card

sorry, all car hire companies worldwide need to have security in case the car is stolen, hence the reason for a credit card number. However, is it not possible for your relative to book the car in Spain, on line or at the local hire office, using their credit card, then you can pay them back when you arrive. Another alternative is to wait until you arrive and book a local car hire, in the hope they will take cash.

Call your bank that issued you with the debit visa card. They may have some suggestions or even rush you a credit card.

How to hire a car in Spain without a credit card

    Hi there

I have a rather urgent problem we need to overcome. My husband and I are visiting his mother in Spain, specifically Granada, this thursday for 4 days. So far, all the car hire companies we have tried will not accept a booking unless you have a credit card. Neither my husband or myself have a credit card. We do have visa debit cards which we can use to book the car online but have been told unless we produce a credit card on collection we will not be given the car. Does anyone know how we can overcome this problem as time is running out. Any adivce greatly received. Thanks.
