Re: BA strike - here we go again

British Airways has announced that, if the strike goes ahead, they intend to operate a range of flights as normal and not all flights will be cancelled. They are in the process of finalising their flight schedules.

All flights operated by franchise, codeshare and alliance partners are unaffected and will operate normally. this includes airlines such as Flybe, BA CityFlyer, Loganair, American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Quantas, Aer Lingus and Iberia etc.

Until they finalise their flying schedule, if you are booked to travel between 19 and 31 March 2010, you have the choice of rebooking or cancelling and obtaining a refund.

More information can be found at:

I hope that helps. Do let us know how you get on.

Re: BA strike - here we go again

    Well, they're going to strike:

    3 days from the 20th March - Sat 20, Sun 21, Mon 22
    4 days from the 27th March - Sat 27, Sun 28, Mon 29 and Tue 30

Both periods fall over a weekend and the second strike is in the days leading up to a busy Easter weekend.

I've just been watching the announcement with our travel expert Bob Atkinson and his take is that, yet again, BA customers are being put on a white-knuckle ride as they wait to see if/how/when the airline can operate their flights.

Thousands of passengers have had their plans put into limbo, so bob's advice is to make absolutely sure your contact details are up to date so BA can contact you to tell you if your flight is one of those affected. You also need to check your travel insurance covers you to help pay for making alternative travel arrangements.

BA apparently have a contingency plan in place - we'll have to wait and see what their response is.

If you want to know what to do next, read our latest advice.

What do you think? Are you affected by the strike? Are you a cabin crew member who voted in favour? We'd love to hear your thoughts...

Re: BA strike - here we go again

Unite are going to announce if they're going to strike at 11am. I'll keep you updated as soon as I hear anything.

If they do, are you worried that it may affect your flight? Like 'RTW2005', have you deliberately not booked with BA because of the threat of looming strike action?

Re: BA strike - here we go again

As you may have already seen or heard on the news, the bad news is back - the Unite BA cabin crews have voted again in favour of industrial action. However, Unite hope to continue to negotiate with the airline and have not given any indication when the strikes could take place.

Our travel expert, Bob Atkinson, has written an article on what you need to know.

Are you affected by this proposed strike? What are you doing about your travel plans? Do you feel sympathy for the cabin crew or are you on the side of British Airways? Sign in and tell us what you think...

    Re: BA strike

Hi all, a news update in the last half an hour...

BA have won their legal challenge in the High Court against the cabin crew's 12 day strike which is due to begin on Wed 22nd December. The High court agreed with BA that Unite, the cabin crew's union, had incorrectly balloted its members on strike action.

Travelsupermarket.com's Bob Atkinson said: "We welcome this announcement. Unite should now call off this disproportionately extreme 12 day strike and staff should commit to work as normal so that the one million passengers booked with the airline can breathe a sigh of relief and carry on with their travel plans this Christmas and New Year."

I'm sure this isn't the end of the matter - and Unite will surely release a statement shortly - but what do you think? Do you have sympathy for the cabin crew or are they holding the company and its customers to ransom at one of the busiest times of the year? Have your say...

    Re: BA strike

Not good, is it RTW? I was never keen on BA back in the 80s - I found their short-haul cabin service distinctly second class whenever I used it, but then I did work for British Midland at the time, so I may have been a bit biased!

I thought BA improved significantly in the 90s but they seem to have been unable to come up with a competitive cost model against the 'budget' airlines in the noughties. 2009 has ceratinly been their "annus horriblis" - and this is, as you say, another nail. They really need to get this sorted out as soon as possible and re-assure customers that they can deliver a quality service for a competitive price.

    Re: BA strike

Not flying British Airways, but think the strike will be another nail into the coffin, who will fly BA in the future. As there always seems to be the threat of strike action. so the cabin crew are going to ruin christmas for a lot of people, if they want to go strike that is up to them but why hold BA to "ransom" by doing it at christmas

Have done quite a bit of flying over the years and have only used BA 4 times (twice for work shorthaul flights)

going to China next year and when I heard talk of strikes that put me off using BA

Well, it looks like the BA cabin staff strike is going to go ahead after an 'overwhelming' majority of crew voted in favour of action. The strike is due to start on the 22nd December and continue on unspecified dates until the 2nd January.

Does anyone have a flight booked for the 22nd Dec? What will you do? Have you spoken to BA? Will your travel insurance cover the cancellation? Are you worried your travel plans may be disrupted by this strike? I'd love to hear your thoughts if this decision affects you. Sky and the BBC are also looking to speak to those affected, so drop me a line at the email address below if you'd like to speak to them.

Our travel expert, Bob Atkinson, outlines some important information for those affected:

What do you think? Are the cabin crew right to strike or should customers have a right to expect uninterrupted service over the Christmas period? We'd love to hear your thoughts...
