We recently rented a car from economy car rentals.

The car was rented through Avis Rome. While renting the car we clearly mentioned that we will drive it to Hungary and Italy. Economy Car rentals did not tell Avis that we will be driving to Italy and Hungary.

The car was in an accident in Hungary because Avis mistakenly gave us a car with summer tires and it could not handle 1 inch of fresh snow in Budapest. Economy rental found excuses to not pay us 762 Euro of damage cost. They knew the car was going to Hungary but did not give us a cross border card. Later they demanded the cross border card and failing which we were denied the reimbursement. We had complete documentation of the accident with police reports etc. the whole nine yards.

Economy Rentals is an operation running from Greece where they cannot be sued by US residents. BEWARE of them and NEVER rent from them. I am now working with Avis Italy to see if they will pay me for the brand new 4 winter tires I had to put on the car so I could drive it back from Budapest to Venice.
