have you ever considered the lovely city of krakow, poland. i went there earlier this year and was superb. it has everything your mum looks for in a holiday and at the same time there is plenty of other tours different to the bog standard one's and all of them are good value for money. the cost of eating etc... is very reasonable. the only downside i would is the weather, it will be quite cold around december.

one other place i would suggest is koln. it's also reasonable with a great choice of museums etc.. and the food is something else (in a good way). christmas and new year is especialy special in germany. ive worked there in the past for 2 years and last year went for 5 nights to see my old haunts, brought back so many good memories.

if it's somewhere a wee bit warmer you could always go with somewhere like barcelona, malta or lisbon.

someone suggested to me once to do a cruise and I fobbed it off was never keen and I thought it would be all old people. I did my first cruise about 5 years ago how wrong I was and am now smitten. I did my first cruise at 50 and know your mum will love it. The beauty of a cruise is you see a different destination everyday you can do your own thing or go on a tour, the food is excellent, you get a chance to dress up if you want and if you don't want to you can always go to a buffet restaurant. The shows in the evening are every bit as good as what you would see in London and they are all free. We always pick places that have interesting itineraries. So far we have done Russia and the baltics the med which takes you to Rome. France etc and we have also done the Caribbean to name but a few.Alternatively you could do a tour I would recommend travelsphere they do excellent tours and the reps are excellent. I would recommend the top to toe of Italy which covers all the major tourist places like Venice, Rome, Pisa, Capri, Sorrento, Garda, Portophino, Montecassino and the Amalfi drive. I have been to China, New York, Austria and the States they are an excellent company and the tours are excellent have a look at the brochures. Hope this helps.

Sorry about that. I'm 21 and my mother is 51, but we're looking to go for my 22nd birthday which is 27th December (booo!). We both love wine and food. My mum likes the "cultural things" such as museums and art but ideally, if I was to go for the more cultural side then it would have to be something a little different not your bog standed art museum.

I'm looking for a destination for my mother and I to go away on holiday together. I've had a few ideas such as Paris and Venice but just wondered if anybody could suggest anywhere else? Or even amazing things to do while on holiday.

I've had a look at a few websites for specialised mother and daughter trips where maybe you got a guide but they all seem to be American.

Any help anybody can give me on this would be amazing!
