I'm just looking for a package-type holiday in the sun around August time, so somewhere like Spain or Tenerife, but I don't have a particular preference on country. Thomas Cook seems to have some good deals, but I've heard they're on the bridge of going into administration so I'm a little skeptical to go with them.

West coast USA road trip

I'm planning a road trip to the west coast USA at the end of Aug/beginning of Sep and have a draft itinerary below. I just wanted people's opinions on it to see if I've missed out anywhere and if the split of days is right. Day 1: Fly in to Las Vegas from London. Arrive at 6pm. Visit the strip and stay in Las Vegas (Bellagio maybe) Day 2: Pick up hire car and drive to the Grand Canyon (301 miles - 5 hours) Day 3: Drive back to Las Vegas and spend the day there (301 miles - 5 hours) Day 4: Drive to San Diego (327 miles - 5 hrs) Day 5 - Drive to LA (120 miles - 2 hours) Day 6 - Say in LA - visit Hollywood etc Day 7: Drive to San Francisco (382 miles - 6 hours) Day 8 - Stay in San Francisco (Alcatraz, Golden Gate etc) Day 9 - Drive to Lake Tahoe (191 miles - 3.5 hrs) Day 10 - Drive to Yosemite (152 miles - 3 hrs) Day 11 - Drive to Death Valley (250 miles - 4.75 hrs) Day 12 - Drive to Las Vegas. Flight back to London Just wondering if I've missed anything worth seeing. Is 1 day enough to see San Diego? I'm just a bit concerned about the amount of mileage and driving. In total it is 2,170 miles and nearly 37 hours driving. Would anyone have a revised road trip that may be better. I've never been to America before. I'm a 23 year old male if that helps.

What are you doing this Easter?

We've just published a blog post by the TravelSupermarket team on our Easter plans. Once he had gone though everything and confirmed the payment etc he realised he had put his sisters in wrong (he had put in his own surname) I know this was his error but when we have just logged back in to amend the name it is wanting to charge £100! I could understand if we were changing the passenger but can they still charge this £100 for an error like this. My parents are upset about this so I just wanted any advise. I have tried to call the Monarch helpline but they are closed ( Im guessing till Tuesday) Many thanks! Now for some reason I can't find it on any travel site any more, hard to believe that an entire aircraft would fill up at that one particular time on that particular day so far in advance but hey. Now I'm stumped, because most other flights have a silly departure time or arrival time and even then the cheapest flight even remotely suitable is £120 for flight not including travel to airport, long stay parking or luggage allowance. I really need to get over there, but I need a cheaper way of doing it. I've looked at coach/ferry travel but it's silly expensive or doesn't leave from Portsmouth. I've looked at train/ferry but far too expensive and even just simply driving to Wales eco style and catching a ferry is rediculously expensive as well when it's just me and one tiny car. No wonder people don't use public transport when it's so dam expensive. Really need help and don't know what else to try or where to turn. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Flights

Hi Guys, Would be grateful if you could provide best ways to obtain cheaper long haul flights return to USA. I'm very nervous about taking this in cash and have been investigating currency cards, but because they are in Euros or Dollars wonder if they are going to leave me much out of pocket. I believe cashwise my best bet is to take my money as sterling and change it there, but card wise I am concerned about having it changed to Euros to go on the card and then changed to lira to withdraw. I am also a little concerned about the safety of cash machines whilst there. Am I being too cautious? Has anyone got advice on taking money to Turkey? Thanks, Guy

Where to go in spain

Me and 2 mates are looking to go on an all exclusive holiday to Spain in early September. I am a member of Spice, which is a social and adventure group who run activities and holidays. Last year about 30 of us booked a ski holiday with Mark Warner through Spice. The trip was in January in Meribel. During the transfer from the airport to the resort the coach caught fire. Firstly we were very lucky to get of the coach without injury as it was only because a couple of people were facing backwards and saw the smoke coming in at the back that we were alerted and got off in time as the whole coach was completely destroyed within about 10 minutes. Whilst some of the luggage was retrieved, several of us lost everything and had just what we got off the coach with. In my case I was lucky to have my handbag with passport and purse. The next day MW brought us back down the mountain so we could buy essential replacements. We lost 1/2 to 1 day skiing and had to fund this outlay ourselves. Some of us lost important medication which we had to get replaced (thankfully, the medical centre was very understanding). Mark Warner allocated a manager to help with the situation who tried to help, but it was clear the company was struggling to understand fully the issues that we had. The bus company accepted liability and said their insurance company would pay our claims. In the meantime, we were given an interim sum towards monies we paid out to replace essential items. The arrangement was that we would submit claims using by filling in an excel spreadhseet, attaching receipts when we had them and estimates for replacement items. To put this together took us all hours. Mark Warner was to handle everything, liaising with the insurance company. Because of this, none of us claimed through out individual policies. Our claims were submitted to Mark Warner mid February. They assured us the settlement would be within 1-2 months and a date at the end of April was given to us. At the end of April, we were told settlement would be the end of May. At the end of May we were given another date of June 20th. Just before the last date there was an update that the insurance company had some queries. After that we have had no more updates and no indication when the settlement will be paid. During this process Mark Warner have been less then helpful and seem very reluctant to give out any information. We don't know the name of the insurance company or how the claim is being processed. Obviously, as this all took place in France it makes it worse. Sorry for the long post. But does anyone know if there is anything we can do to try and get this matter resolved? At the moment we are only claiming for actual items lost and not compensation for trauma, stress, loss of skiing, loss of enjoyment of holiday, stress since we came back (I'm really struggling financially). At the moment, I for one, just need the settlement. The most frustrating thing is not having any information. The other worrying thing is that MW have resigned form ABTA. I have no idea what this means, but I wonder if this is an indication of financial difficulties. Any advice anyone has would be very much appreciated.
