Re: Borneo - would definitely recommend it

Hi im looking at going to borneo for my brothers wedding in april. We will be staying at the Shangri Las Rasa Ria Resort also, we will be taking our 6 years old and our 4 year old plus 10 month baby at the time.

Could you let us no what the situation is with the mosquetos as my little baby is not allowed to have thypoid or malleria. We have been told that its a low risk area so do not need to take maleria tablets.

What was the flight like coz that is my only worry it being nearly 16 hours till we get to shangri las rasa ria resort.

This holiday is based on a heart and a head decission and i dont no what to do.

    thanks

    Michelle

    Hi,

I'm glad to hear that you had such a good time I'm looking to go to Borneo next year. So far we have just booked flights and are looking to book trips when we get out there. Do you think this is the best way of doing it? The details of the day trip company would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Rhiannon

Re: Borneo - would definitely recommend it

Try this site, can recommend the company.

    http://www.borneoadventure.com/public/home/default.asp

They do tours into the rain forest by longboat (canoe), staying with a local tribe in the forest in a log 'cabin'. Amazing priviledge. I did the Ulu Ai trip.

If you really want to 'push the boat out' Abercrombie and Kent are the Harrods of tour operators to the area. Not cheap, but 5 star all the way.

Don't forget to go shopping in KL's Chinatown for your bargins!!

Re: Borneo - would definitely recommend it

I'm also planning to go to Borneo later in 2007. I'm planning on fairly active and adventuroud trip - sitting on beaches limited to sunsets only.

Could anyone recommend a few 'Must see' highlights? Sepilok looks like a must, but I know you can sometimes get somewhere and find there alternatives that are just as good but not oversubscribed.

Also, what's the public transport like? Should I plan some internal flights to get around quickly/comfortably?

Borneo - would definitely recommend it

We went to Borneo for our honeymoon last November, and we would definitely recommend it. We didn't want just a beach holiday as we aren't beach people (don't like sand!) so we decided early on that we wanted a holiday where we would get out of the hotel and do things that we would never forget. We stopped off in Kuala Lumpur for 3 days before going on to Borneo which was an experience in itself, but something we will never forget. We had so many native people take photos of us as we were the only white people there, and we made an effort to use the public transport and visit local attractions. It did feel intimidating, as I especially was stared at, as I was a white woman walking round local markets and temples. When we got to Borneo we stayed at the Rasa Ria Resort on the beach which backed onto the rainforest, and even had its own nature reserve. It is definitely recommended. We went out an did a 2 day trip where we went to natural springs and did a tree top walk in the forest (very scary). We then did a 3 day trip which included a day and night on turtle island. Here we got to see giant turtles laying their eggs, hold baby turtles just after they had hatched, and release the baby turtles into the sea. We then went onto Sepilock to see the orangutans, and then we went 80km up river into the rainforest to a small hostel, where we went out on boats to see probiscus monkeys and black gibbons. it was the most wonderful trip and every day we wish we could go back. If you would like the details of the day trip company we used and the full hotel name, post here and I'll dig them out for you.
