Re: Car hire for a young driver

Where do you want to rent a car? Europe, US or elsewhere? If its the US you will be lucky to find anyone who will rent without a credit card, £250 doesn't go far if you don't return the car. I am not sure you will find anywhere that won't charge a surcharge because of your age, all insurers charge a lot more for young drivers because they have more accidents, car renters are not concerned about whether you have three or four years no claims bonus because that is not a factor they examine with anyone before renting a car to them

Car hire for a young driver

Hi all, I am planning to hire a car for a week in August and would like to do this as cheaply as possible (whilst still using a reputable company!). I am 21 so most companies charge an extra fee for young drivers (it's quite a bit - £16 a day). Basically I was wondering if anybody knows of a company that doesn't charge this, or could be negotiated with to charge less? I have been driving for four years without an accident, I don't know if some companies would take this into account? The only other thing is that I don't have a credit card in my name, so it would have to be somewhere that accepts a cash deposit (I have £250 set aside for this). Thanks, Simon
