Re: Exchange Rates - Crown Currency Exchange
Hi Any thoughts re the Travelex Cash Passport ? My son lives in Melbourne & as the exchange rate seems to constantly deteriorating, I am trying to "lock in" at various dates prior to a month's stay in January. Short of carrying lots of cash , any other ideas for doing this if Travelex is not "guaranteed" ?

Re: Exchange Rates - Crown Currency Exchange
Oh dear... how I hate being proved right. :-( Your friend will need to initiate the Visa 'Chargeback' scheme via her bank, there's plenty of threads here with details, - the xcape with us going bust thread being a good start i'd think. best wishes with it. Mark

Re: Exchange Rates - Crown Currency Exchange
As I am sure you know by now, Crown has gone bust, with little likelihood of recompense from the administrators - certainly not in in the short term. Despite the large number of positive reviews on this site there are several (mine included) which warn of the dangers of dealing with such an unregulated company, especially given the warning signs... I hope your friend is able to get her money back - but I doubt that it will be from CCE. She is fortunate that she paid with a VISA debit card (I don' think they accepted credit cards, so she could not have paid that way), as she MAY be able to get the bank to agree a "charge-back" for those funds, via VISA. (This does not apply to other debit cards, unfortunately.) I wish her luck - let us know how she gets on! Rgds, Martin

Re: Exchange Rates - Crown Currency Exchange
Can anyone help me????? My friend has ordered £2000 worth of US dollors from Crown Currency Exchange using her Visa debit card, they have taken the money out of her bank but she has not recieved the currency. There are rumours that the company has now gone bust - i know she is foolish for not using a credit card - is there anyway she can claim the money back if the rumours are true and they have indeed gone bust? Any help will be greatly appreciated Milli

Re: Exchange Rates - Crown Currency Exchange
Abut to fly off on Holiday to Florida and by ordering early from Crown Currency Exchange I recieved an additional 680 Dollars for my £2700 based on todays exchange rate. I have used them several times and the money is delivered on the specifeid date with no problems. I can understand the risks involved bu I have recommended hem to friends and would use the again.

Re: Exchange Rates - Crown Currency Exchange
Crown Currency Exchange also trades as Travel Money Services, below I have copied and pasted a recent announcement I found on a Travel News Website called E-Tid on 26th Oct 09, read this and make your own minds up about this company: The travel money service offered by Manchester United for its fans has been dropped by the club, days after Financial Mail revealed it was a tiny, barely profitable firm whose owner had at one time been barred from holding company directorships. The team’s sponsor AIG had selected Travel Money Services (TMS), a Cornwall-based currency company to offer a postal money-ordering service to fans, but last week the club had deleted all links to the service from its sites (Mail). To read the full Financial Mail article on this go to this website link http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/bargains-and-rip-offs/travel/article.html?in_article_id=492425&in_page_id=1093

Re: Exchange Rates - Crown Currency Exchange
Woah...! I dunno about scare tactics. Facts are facts. Freedom direct and xcape with us have gone bust this year, amongst several other similar companies. What i'm saying is that if you were going to USA on a once in a lifetime holiday and changed up your whole 3 or 4 grand of hard earned spending money... only to lose the lot? I think it might spoil things just a bit... :( The fairfx card appears to offer reasonable rates, I don't know how it works if it was to go bust (is it bonded or something?). Just be careful and weigh up the consequences is all I'm saying. A risky exchange for just 30 or 40 euros more, versus a straightforward in your hand post office type of over the counter transaction provides a less stressful waiting period. Just to remind, there is no security for this type of cheque or transfer only exchange that crown insist on. Once bitten twice shy for me I suppose :(

Re: Exchange Rates - Crown Currency Exchange
Hi Tree12uk Re Crown Exchange - they dont have facilities for payment by credit/debit card for some reason and ask for payment to be made by cheque. I suppose it is taking a chance but I will use them again shortly. As you say, anyone can go bust - even very well known companies. JD

Re: Exchange Rates - Crown Currency Exchange
Morning tree1uk. I fully agree with all your comments. I am a regular user of Crown Currency, Just a quick point though CC only accept payment by BACS payment or Chq. Still I am more than happy to do this because of rates and previous experience. Happy Holidays Dougie

Re: Exchange Rates - Crown Currency Exchange
To be fair any business can go bust, You only have to look at TCD last year to see that, I think the point everyone is making, is crown exchange have good rates and whenever they have used them they have had a good service provided! I have used them before and I will use them this year also as there is as much chance of them going bust as any other currency shop online or offline, even on the high street a lot of the time you have to hand over your money and pre order and wait a few days to pick it up...in those few days the shop you are using may go bust!! I think using scare tactics to make people worry what may happen is silly, in these times I think everyone can see the risk of just about anything. The most sensible thing to do if you are worried is to pay on credit card so you can claim it back through them if the worst happens. Then use the money saved to clear you card again.

Re: Exchange Rates - Crown Currency Exchange
I'm having trouble believing the credibility of the posts in this thread. The amount of people that recommended 'xcapewithus' as a good holiday accomodation provider, never had any problems, blah blah blah... now they have gone bust taking several millions of pounds of hard working peoples money with them... :( 10,000 creditors at £1,000 each is 10 million. That's some *serious* going bust. People that have paid by cheque, or solo or switch or maestro have lost the lot. So, tempting as that few extra dollars or euros sounds, have a good think about it people.

Re: Exchange Rates - Crown Currency Exchange
Hi Dibbs99 I know that you cant be too careful, BUT - I and friends also have dealt with Crown Exchange with no problem. Our money on each occasion has arrived on the day arranged by registered post and we have paid by cheque. As soon as they receive the cheque they send an e-mail to confirm. NO - the Post Office or banks DO NOT give the same exchange rate, which is why I now always use Crown Exchange. NO CON ! ! just good service and always the best rates. I must admit though that I did hesitate the first time in using them. JD

Re: Exchange Rates - Crown Currency Exchange
I have used them six times now and can't rate them highly enough. They have always delivered on the date specified. I pay by cheque because it is easier for me. Can understand people being warey but I have found it to be an extremely professional service. Sandra
