It certainly is possible and very enjoyable but you have to be careful when you travel if you don't book everything ahead. New England gets packed, and prices rise during 'The Fall' as the autumn colours develop and I would suggest at least booking a couple of nights ahead rather than arriving at 4pm as I did to find the last rooms gone! Likewise Vegas is having a hard time at the moment and Monday to Thursday you should have no problem finding cheap rooms but if there is a pre booked Convention in town, every hotel room can be booked three months in advance, you can check dates at the Vegas Convention website.

The only other caveat is US Immigration on arrival, they will want an address that you are staying at, including a zip code, and frankly the first night after 8-11 hours flying you don't want to be driving around looking for somewhere to stay so book the first night. Other than that, it would be rare not to find somewhere half decent without difficulty.

Fly from UK to USA. Tour and accomodation on the way....is USA still explorers paradise?

    Hi

Just hoping I can get the views of some of you experienced USA explorers......

A couple of years ago my girlfriend and I took the car over to France and toured around, stopping and staying basically where ever we landed.....it was reasonably easy (except for one night everywhere was booked!!!) and enjoyably, suiting ourselves with no real schedule to keep. Was just wondering how feasable this would be in America? Maybe flying to Boston and touring New England? ....or fly to Vegas, or a West Coast airport and tour that area?

Being that America has been home to many free-wheeling types, i wonder if this is still possible? booking flights and a car, then touring round and picking up accomodation along the way does appeal to me more than a holiday scheduled for me.

Your thoughts / advice will be appreciated.

    Best Regards

    L
