    Re: Holiday destination

I would recommend MASPALOMAS, Gran Canaria. I took hubby there for his 40th birthday and we had such a good time that we ended up booking two more holidays there in a duraiton of eighteen months. The beach is fantastic, the sand dunes are amazing. the resort is clean, and tidy. the faro 2 centre has many amazing places to eat, and we would both recomend an evening at BANJOs bar. A great day out is joining the zig zag safari, or a trip on the yellow submarine.

just to add to the discussion.

i went to cologne (koln) in march and the weather was great even then. locals are very friendly with tons to see. the hotels are reasonably price along with a no frills direct flights from stanstead and edinburgh with germanwings. they have a brand new fleet of airbuses. just step out the main railway station and be amazed by the the tallest gothic cathedral in the world along with the best musuem for roman & germanic artifacts in europe (no kidding) theres everything for everyone.

    Re: Holiday destination

I dont know if you have already decided but i have one suggestion for you, i have been with http://www.polaris-golf-holidays.com/ to Murcia in Spain. The site is as you will note a golfing resort but the facilites that are of a really high standard.

It was a great experience, it was really rather cheap considering how lovely the apartmens were and the people who own the apartments are really nice :-)

    hope this helps!

    Re: Holiday destination

bob's options for you are very good, i concur completely and would favour barcelona for all round enjoyment. however instead of going so far afield, i'd also suggest scottish islands - great walks, watersports, good honest food and people, beautiful rolling mountains and its a cracking family holiday really...

    Re: Holiday destination

    Hi

I would suggest cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Berlin, Prague and Amsterdam.  All have low cost flights from airports such as Exeter and Bristol and all have loads of sightseeing, museums, galleries and shops.  Food is plentiful and lots of choice of restaurants.

Be aware that Bareclona/Berlin can be quite expensive for accommodation though.

If you want something a little different then why not try Majorca - sray close to Palma city, with it's gorgeous old town and cathedral, plus excellent shops and restaurants.  You can easily get around the island by train and bus and explore the north west coat - Deia, Soller e.t.c. which are also great for walking.  You can also get some sun then and enjoy the excellent food.  If you avoid the main resorts you will be fine.

If you enjoyed Paris, you will enjoy all of these!

Go browse the travel section of a good book shop such as Waterstones and see what takes you fancy!  Then once you have decided, start lookig for flights and get booked late this year to get the best prices.

    Kind regards

    Bob

    Re: Holiday destination

Boy you work late don't you?

    1. Approx £300 per person

    2. Only got a week

3.Self Catering usually but thats because we take the kids and its easier

    4. Swimming, walking, Pub games, Just chilling out together as it doesn't happen very often, also sightseeing

    5. Beach holidays, surfing/bodyboarding anything to keep kids happy really. Did manage a weekend in Paris a few years back which was fantastic, lots to see.

    6. Guessed correctly - Devon

Unlike any holiday before it will be just the 2 of us!! How scary is that! No kids at all. We didn't even have a honeymoon, we don't want to go too far hence the Europe destination.

    Any help would be great

    Hi

    Sounds like fun!

In order to help, please answer me a few questions and I will try and offer some solutions that may hit the spot or inspire you!

    1. Rough budget

    2. Length of trip

    3. What quality of accommodation do you usually use?

    4. What kind of things do you both enjoy doing?

    5. What kinds of holiday do you normally take and enjoy?

    6. Where are you based - Devon by any chance?

I will then try and suggest some ideas!

    Kind regards

    Re: Holiday destination

Thanks for that. I am sure him indoors would like the idea of golf in Portugal, right up his street. As long as there was a pool, sunshine and a bar i could go along with it.

    Re: Holiday destination

    Hi

My parents went to  France and traveled round the wine region staying in chateau relay. 5* hotels with super restauents. Ive always thought a few days in Paris and then out to Versaille would be nice, and a good deal cheaper.

If your that way inclined then a week in a villa in Portugal, with the odd game of golf can also be nice.
