    holiday horrors

Have just returned from a week at the Pollensa Park Hotel in Puerto Pollensa Majorca.

Allocated crap room on ground floor with no balcony, noisy air con, which blew out loads of muck when switched on, phone didn't work all week despite being reported twice, person next door had to go to hospital room was vacated but door was left wide open from mid afternoon till the next morning revealing heavily blood stained pillows and bed linen.

At Palma Airport no T/Cook rep could be found dealing with our flight, when we did find someone the idiot then sent us off in the wrong direction to pick the transfer coach up found it 20 mins later but by then soaked to skin in the rain.

On asking rep at hotel about a move to a balcony room we was told it would cost us another 150 Euros my reply consisted of two words.

My advice avoid both like the plague.

    Re: holiday horrors

    hello

have you spoken to thomas cook on your return? also did you book online or from the brochure.

i had a look at the thomas cook webbsite and checked out what room you get if booked online at the pollensa hotel. here is what they say. http://ww5.thomascook.com/search/holidaydetails.aspx?refpage=Results

    Rooms

Rooms have 2 or 3 beds, some with extra child bed (up to age 12), air conditioning, telephone, full bathroom and balcony. Prices are based on 2 adults sharing a room on Half Board.
Family rooms sleeping 2 adults and 2 children with 4 single beds or a double bed and bunk beds, and single rooms are available at a supplement. Rooms sleeping up to 3 persons without balcony are available at a reduction.
at face value the page says in black & white that the rooms (if someone was booking today) would have a balcony as standard & if you wanted one without a balcony are available at a reduction? as i don't know details of your booking, i can only guess that you paid for a balcony but didn't get one and were allocated to the ground floor.if it was me i would certainly go into a high street branch of thomas cook and tell them your experiences at the hotel, you never know they may help you out with some compensation. have you still got emails/booking info when you booked with holiday costs, descriptions etc....have all the information at hand so they know you are serious about getting some compensation. ask them also for a price breakdown for your holiday at the hotel without a balcony and see if they can refund you the difference, mentioning that the room description also states a reduction in price for a room without one.last but not least don't do what i did years ago (stormed into the shop with all guns blazing) it doesn't work as i found out the hard way. better to be calm friendly and polite with all the evidence in front of you. also be persistant don't be fobbed off with any UNFORTUNATLY sir/madam "the holiday and room you blah, blah, blah......................" also get as many people involved from thomas cook as possible. either way if you decide yes or no to go ahead for some sort of compensation back, hopefully ive given some advice that may help you. regards jim

    Re: holiday horrors

    Hi Jim.

Booked holiday online back in (Jan) presumed that we would get a balcony room without any problem.

Failed to notice when final invoice came through that it stated a none balcony room.

Website does not give you the option either way.

Unfortunately i shredded all the information regarding bookings etc yesterday, but have posted off a letter of complaint to them.

We got a reduction of £14 for the none balcony room( big deal eh).

Have stayed at this hotel twice before no problems but booked with High St Travel Agent might be a good idea to do so in the future.

Will await and see what they reply to my letter, in the meantime many thanks for your information i still have the brochure and will look at the small print will and let you know what the out come is.

    Regards.

    Re: holiday horrors

As has been previously stated, do check your invoice or T & C's as their is a good chance it is stated. So many people are having the exact same problems as you.

    Re: holiday horrors

Many thanks will do a check, never had this problem before but first time booking online.

Have always used a High St T/Agent in the past, at least that way you can tell them exactly what you want.

But will be much more careful if we do it online again.

    Thanks for your reply.
