    qatar airways

    please advise on the following:

I live in the Middle East. Recently I made a booking on line for my daughter to fly to Bahrain to visit me in April.

I selected from Travelsupermarket.com the best fare from London Heathrow to Bahrain. This fare was from a travel agent - openjet , which is based in Sweden. I completed the booking and paid by credit card. After completion, a notice came up saying that the credit card would have to be presented at check in.

Alarmed by this I asked my daughter to contact the travel company and explain that her mother had make the booking etc and that the traveller was not the credit card account holder. My daughter got no reply from the company so contacted Qatar air by email (tell-usATqatarairways.com.qa) to ask for advice. She received a reply from Henrietta Cardoza of Customer Relations Department. The advice given was 'please be advised credit card holder might accompany the traveler to the check-in or he/she should visit Qatar Air. My local QA office in Bahrain offered no help, other than to tell me to send my credit card to my daughter!

I cannot be the only person in this situation.

I too have contacted Henrietta Cardoza and I am still awating a reply.

Can anyone offer some guidance on this? its crazy!!

    Re: qatar airways

It is to prevent credit card fraud ie someone you don't know could use your credit cards to book themself a nice holiday. Most airlines do the same - have had trouble myself with different family members trying to book each other tickets!

However, the travel agent should have told you BEFORE you completed booking that the card must be presented.

As you booked through an agent, Qatar airways are not at fault so not obliged to do anything - although still annoying local QA office won't help! Anyway, best thing would probably be to cancel the ticket & rebook with your daughter paying herself; you could wire her the money in advance if needed?

If they try to charge you for cancellation - make it clear its because of their fault in not giving relevant information.

    hope this helps!
