Well.......that could be anywhere..........hopefully they wouldn't put you anywhere that was known to be a bad area. Without knowing the area you're going to be living in it's difficult to give specific advice. My general advice is to be aware of your own personal safety when moving about anywhere in S.Africa and you should be OK. There's parts of London that I wouldn't willing venture into, even in daylight, so keep your wits about you like you would in any city and you should be OK. If you have the time, drive up the Garden Route, with a detour up to Outshorn for the ostriches. Also, visit the Cango wildlife ranch where you can stroke cheetahs or tigers in their cages. And Stellenbosch is well worth a visit.

Well, it's safer than Jo'burgh !! No really, it's a wonderful place and I really envy you being able to go there for 5 months. You'll have a wonderful time. The scenery is breathtaking, and because the Rand is very weak now, everything will seem very cheap to you (assuming you're being paid in GBP, of course). Basically you just need to be sensible. When you drive around keep your car doors locked, and don't use the train for travelling. Obviously don't go into the local township, Kyelisha, and if you hit anyone driving, don't stop. Just go to the nearest police station and report it. Do you know where you'll be living yet ?

taking a job offer in CapeTown for 5 months, Is it safe

    Hello everone,

I'm taking a 5 month contract job oppurtunity in Cape Town. I was just curious to know if it is safe or how to enjoy my time there with the locals and be able to stay out of trouble. Also what to expect as far as living expenses.
