Having just got back this morning from a week's holiday in Gran Canaria, booked with Airtours ( now owned by Thomas Cook ), I feel I must warn anyone who is planning a holiday to take care and NOT book with Thomas Cook or any of the agents they have taken over! On a holiday which only lasts 7 days this company managed to make sure that almost every aspect of it was ruined. The beginning of the disaster was when our tickets arrived and we discovered that the time of our outgoing flight had been changed from 2.30 in the afternoon to 9.50 at night and they hadn't even bothered to inform us of this! Next thing which happened was that they told us at check-in that we were 6 kilos overweight and that we had to pay £48.00 in spite of the fact that we had no hand luggage ( allowance of 5 kilos each ), as they told us that these weight allowances could not be combined. Can anyone tell me what difference it makes to have baggage in the overhead compartments instead of in the hold of the plane! Weight is weight! The bungalow we were allocated was tatty and the maid service was almost non-existent, with no towels changed for 3 days out of 7 and no shower facilities on the last day. When we arrived at the airport on our last day, we were told that our plane had been delayed for at least 3 hours! All in all a very poor service! As we go abroad at least 3 times a year, Thomas Cook has lost out, because we will never travel with them again, and judging by the comments of many others on our flight, we will not be alone!
