Don't waste money buying  travellers cheques, take some cash and then use your Maestro card to withdraw money as you go along. You need to look not only at the rate of exchange you get but also what commission is being charged. The worst place to change money is at the airport, and on Oxford Street in London at the weekend when they charge our innocent foreign tourists up to 9% commission! There is usually a better rate than normal at M & S and the Post Office but some small exchanges also give good rates. If you do not have a large selection to choose from, stick with M & S and don't take too much, the pound appears to be still strengthening against the dollar!

as alan said ,post office and marks and spencers are usually the best rates, id take some cash and travellers cheques because if you lose your cheques your insured and should receive a replacement in 24hrs as a rule ,so at least your playing it safe that way.if your taking a couple of grand try asking the company you buy your dollars from for a special dollar rate because of the amount your spending, theyll usually give you one to stop you  going elsewhere, most travel agents will do this deal.hope this helps.

    Hi

I always advise people to buy online from travelex.co.uk.  You order and pay on line and then collect your cheques/cash at your airport of depature.  Commissions are nil on cash and minimla on cheques.  Exchange rates are some of the best you will ever find and the service is excellent.  I have used it many many times and always been very satisfied.

    Kind regards

    Bob
