With a flight time of less than two hours from the UK, Germany is easy to reach and low-cost flights abound from all major UK airports.
As of 2017, Ryanair flies to Bremen (BRE), Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Nuremberg (NUE) and Stuttgart (STR) from Edinburgh (EDI) and Manchester (MAN), as well as some London airports (you can fly Ryanair from London Stansted to Frankfurt, for example). These are usually daytime flights, meaning that you can jump off the plane, head to your hotel and go out to gorge on currywurst before the sun goes down.
If you’re trying to save your pennies for a spot of holiday shopping, compare easyJet flights to Germany – the airline operates routes to Dortmund (DTM), Stuttgart, Berlin, Dresden (DRS) and Friedrichshafen (FDH), which is a popular base for ski holidays in the northern Alps.
Norwegian Airlines is another airline to consider, flying into Berlin, Hamburg and Munich from London Gatwick (LGW).
Lufthansa is the German national airline and, as well as offering cheap flights to and from Germany, it also offers domestic services between cities such as Leipzig (LEJ), Muenster (FMO), Hannover (HAJ), Mannheim (MHG), Baden-Baden (FKB) and Bremen (BRE). In the UK, Lufthansa departs from Aberdeen (ABZ), Glasgow (GLA), Manchester, Newcastle (NCL), Nottingham (EMA), Birmingham (BHX), London and Southampton (SOU). As Germany’s flag carrier, you can expect good pretzels and great canned beer on-board.
Other airlines also offer routes between the UK and Germany, so compare flights on TravelSupermarket to find the best deal.
