Get your thrills on the French Riviera when you book flights to Monaco with TravelSupermarket...
As densely packed with glitz and glamour as it is with people and buildings, the world’s second-smallest country punches well above its weight in the tourism ring.
It attracts beach lovers, yacht owners, super-rich playboys (and girls), grand-prix fanatics and enough celebrities to pack more than one of its VIP nightclubs. You don’t need a billion in the bank or an Equity card to get in though, as Monaco can be an affordable city break for all.
Travel outside of the busy summer months (and avoid the annual Monaco Grand Prix) and hotel prices drop considerably (those booked-up restaurants suddenly have tables too).
Struggling to find cheap flights to Monaco? There’s a good reason: you can’t fly to Monaco direct from the UK. Some travel websites offer a three-stage journey, from the UK to Paris, to Nice and onwards to Monaco by helicopter. It’s a costly way to get there, as you can imagine. We suggest ditching your search for flights to Monaco from UK airports and looking for a low-cost flight to Nice, which is just 40 minutes by road from Monaco. We can show you low-cost direct flights to Nice from many UK airports. We’ll also give you money-saving tips on getting into Monaco, below.
Practical advice that saves you money: that’s why it pays to search wider, plan smarter and Travel Super with TravelSupermarket.
With no airport, Monaco is reached either by land or on a helicopter transfer from nearby Nice airport...
The luxury and glamour of arriving by helicopter is more affordable than you may think and the small heliport in Monaco (MCM) is just a seven-minute ride from Nice airport (NCE). Heli Air Monaco offers a regular service throughout the day.
Flights into Nice itself take under two hours from the UK, with many daily departures: British Airways, easyJet, Jet2 and Monarch all fly non-stop. Connections with Air France, Aer Lingus, Lufthansa and KLM are also easy to make from the UK.
Getting to Monaco from Nice is so easy you could forget that there are no direct Monaco flights. Trust TravelSupermarket to help you Travel Super...
From Nice Cote d'Azur Airport (NCE) there are a number of transportation options...
A return ticket for the airport express bus into Monaco costs 33 euros (about £25), with a journey time of 45 minutes.
Alternatively, travel by taxi and expect to pay between 75 and 90 euros.
Or make like the stars and travel by helicopter to Monaco Heliport (MCM), in Fontvieille. The journey time from Nice to Monaco is just seven minutes. And onward ground transportation is included in the price, which starts from just over 100 euros per person.
The last (but not least) option is to book car hire in Nice and drive to Monaco. Don’t worry; not everyone drives a Ferrari – although a lot do!
Stay in style in swanky Monaco with our helpful hints…
At around four kilometres in length (with a width of just 350 metres at its narrowest point), it’s fair to say that getting around on foot in Monaco is simple. You could cross it in around an hour, or just 10 minutes in the car. And that means you will be just minutes away from the main attractions wherever you stay.
There is, as you would expect, a wealth of luxury hotels that earn every single one of their five stars. Grand dames of the accommodation scene spoil guests with haute cuisine, sumptuous suites and superb facilities, such as swimming pools and spas.
It is, however, a struggle to find a hotel with a price tag of less than £100 per night in Monaco, even in the low season – although there are budget hotels just over the border in France that offer cheaper stays (and they are still within walking distance of central Monaco). As you might not even know you’re crossing a border (unless there’s a handy road sign), this could be a cheap alternative.
