Cayo Coco, one of the jewels that make up the tiny island chain of Jardines del Rey (which translates as the King's Gardens) off Cuba's north coast, is the perfect Caribbean destination for anyone seeking a total escape from the strains of everyday life.
If you are looking for a luxurious place to stay, a world-class beach, warm seas, and very little else, then holidays in Cayo Coco are for you.
This sumptuously quiet part of the Caribbean is fairly isolated from Cuba, giving it a unique identity. Indeed, it wasn't until recent times that a man-made causeway - some 27 km long - was created to connect the dreamy islands to the mainland.
For those who manage to tear themselves away from the beach, however, there are opportunities to head out. If you fancy a different beach, take the bus up to Playa Pilar, which is often hailed as one of the best beaches in the world. And Moron - the nearest big town - is where to head if you fancy a livelier night out than you can otherwise will find in the beach hotels.
*ATOL (Air Travel Organiser's Licence) is a financial protection scheme for package holidays: It provides support to consumers in the event their holiday provider collapses. Booking with an ATOL holder ensures that you won't be left out of pocket and you won't be left stranded abroad. All package holidays compared using TravelSupermarket are protected by ATOL.
ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents) offers similar cover for packages booked with its members. However, while ATOL predominantly covers flight-based packages, ABTA covers non-flight based holidays (such as rail and cruise) and linked travel arrangements. If you are unsure whether or not your trip is covered by ABTA, check with your provider.
