King’s Day; April 27: On this special day, Amsterdam becomes a sea of bright orange and a swell of open-air partying. Somewhere between 600,000 and one million visitors swoop into the city for a taste of the tangerine action, doubling the population for just one day. Forget red, it’s all about painting the town orange.
Amsterdam Gay Pride; July-August: Often billed as the most tolerant city in Europe, Amsterdam does Gay Pride in style. The city celebrates equality in a big and beautiful way, with rainbow flags fluttering above every doorway and outrageous floats parading through the streets.
Museum Night; November 2018: Amsterdam throws open the doors of more than 50 museums from 6pm until 2am for all kinds of irreverent antics, turning high culture into heavy-duty fun. It’s an all-night extravaganza of alternative music, offbeat exhibits and left-field performance antics, with after-parties going on long beyond dawn.
