Malpensa has two terminals; most services land at Terminal 1, but easyJet utilises Terminal 2. Getting from the latter to the former is occasionally problematic: a free shuttle bus runs between the two every 20 minutes, but can be subject to long queues.
At Terminal 1, you’ll find Malpensa’s rail station and Malpensa Express trains. There are two services, both priced at 13 euros for a one-way fare: one to Milano Cadorna, which takes 35 minutes and departs every half hour, and hourly services to Milano Centrale via Porta Garibaldi, which takes a little longer. Tickets must be purchased beforehand.
The Malpensa Shuttle bus departs from outside Terminal 2 two to three times an hour. Purchase tickets from the arrivals stand – singles cost 10 euros, returns 16 euros.
Taxi transfers to Milan’s city centre typically cost around 90 euros.
The dedicated Starfly coach connects Linate with Milano Centrale station, running every half hour; tickets are sold on board and cost 5 euros, with the journey taking around 30 minutes. Alternatively, buses 73 and X73 (a weekday-only express) stop outside the terminal building en route to Piazza San Babila. Singles cost 1.50 euros.
Metered taxis typically cost 25-40 euros.
Travel to Milano Centrale from Bergamo’s airport via coach. Autostradale’s services are the most regular, running half hourly. Tickets cost 5 euros and the journey time is an hour.
Milan’s public transport is efficient and cheap. There are four Metropolitana lines, with a fifth under construction, and punctual buses. Trams are either the traditional yellow and orange variety, complete with wood panelling and glass chandeliers, or modern, funkier green varieties.
Finally, the MilanoCard city pass offers an alternative means for getting around Milan. It includes free public transportation and free or discounted entry to over 500 tourist attractions and restaurants. It costs 7 euros for one day, 13 for two days or 19 for 72 hours.
