Rijeka Carnival; January-March: Traditionally held between mid-January and Ash Wednesday, the country’s biggest carnival is a wild, lavish affair and one of Croatia’s top tourist attractions. Join in the masked festivities at any number of pageants, parties and balls, which culminate in a massive parade through the streets of the city centre.
International Folklore Festival; July: First held in Zagreb in 1966, this long-running festival celebrates northern Croatia’s rich folkloric traditions with performances, exhibitions and activities all across the city centre.
Dubrovnik Summer Festival; July-August: Artists from all over the world descend on this picturesque town for Croatia’s longest-running festival. Expect a diverse programme of music, ballet, theatre, dance, folklore and film.
