Bora Bora is a South Seas paradise and idyllic romantic location for a honeymoon or special holiday. Booking an all-inclusive package holiday makes this iconic destination more affordable and an ideal destination for travellers wanting an unforgettable respite from work and stress. Located north-west of Tahiti, Bora Bora is part of French Polynesia and is famous for its blue lagoons, overwater bungalows, and water sports. This little tropical gem is a dream come true to its many visitors who want to relax in a stunning location of white sands and blue hues of turquoise, hike in lush rainforests, or even dance with the locals.
The heart-meltingly beautiful Matira Beach is often said to be one of the best beaches in the world. Characterised by fine white sand beaches and warm shallow water, Matira hums a restful tune that can soothe away all the worries in the world – you feel privileged just to set foot here.
At night, one of the best things to do is to do nothing – simply lay on the beach and watch the sky – with thousands of stars visible above you, it’s a truly magical sight. If you’re staying in one of the overwater bungalows, you may wonder how your breakfast is going to be delivered to you. Well, it’s often via a flower-laden canoe; a romantic gesture that takes some beating.
A lagoon sheltered by a coral reef featuring an abundance of marine life, Bora Bora offers superb diving opportunities, along with snorkelling, parasailing, jet-skiing, and even shark and ray snorkel safaris where you can swim with these magnificent creatures. Another popular excursion is a glass-bottomed boat tour – this is a great way to see the underwater world without getting wet or if you’re nervous of sharks.
Bora Bora has an interesting history. After Pearl Harbour was bombed, the Americans feared that Tahiti would also be targeted, so cannons were installed to protect the island. Four of them can be easily reached by a 4WD.
There are several Marae (ancient temple) ruins dotted around the island. The Taharuu Marae is on the east coast, Aehautai Marae is on the southeast coast, and Fare Opu Marae is north of Faanui. There are also some hidden in the lush jungle.
