Too often dismissed as a stepping stone to the prettier villages on Lake Garda, Desenzano del Garda is a working commuter town with a genuinely Italian atmosphere rather than a holiday resort vibe. It’s the largest lakeside town and, if you’re after authentic entertainment in Lake Garda, it’s got the goods.
Locals outnumber tourists in many of Desenzano’s bars, making it a great place to get a glimpse of real Lake Garda nightlife. Spend summer nights hopping between open-air bars, dancing under the stars until dawn and living up every minute of la vita bella (the good life).
With delicious, local wine on tap, boozy Bardolino on the south-east shore is one of the best spots for experiencing the nightlife in Lake Garda. Home to a trio of nightclubs and a handful of atmospheric bars, Bardolino attracts a younger crowd than most other places on Lake Garda.
Pubs shut around 2am, while the discos keep their doors open until at least 4am, so your nights out in Lake Garda can be as wild – or as mild – as you wish.
For a tiny place with a population of fewer than 3,000 people, Torbole sul Garda can get really jumping. Teetering on the wind-whipped northern tip of Lake Garda, it’s seventh heaven for wind-surfers and sailing enthusiasts. The outdoorsy crowd here is active by day and thirsty by night, so you’ll find plenty of bars lining the cobbled streets of the village.
There’s also a kind of team camaraderie to the nightlife on Lake Garda here that you won’t find anywhere else. It’s all wine, talk of tomorrow’s winds, and more wine. So if you love being out on Lake Garda’s waters, you’ll love the bars in Torbole.
