Black Procession; March/April: Taking place on Good Friday, this most dramatic of Sorrento’s Easter processions sees all the town’s lights extinguished as a band performs funeral marches, Gregorian chants are sung and black-capped brethren solemnly recreate Jesus’s funeral procession.
Classical concerts in the Chiesa di San Francesco; summer: Each year, world-class choirs and opera singers come to the tree-lined cloisters of Sorrento’s prettiest church. Details can be maddeningly hard to come by, but weekend evenings are a safe bet; try the tourist office for more information.
Blue Fish Festival; September/October: Held on Marina Grande, this festa honours the gifts of the ocean and, sob, the end of summer. Its beachside barbecues are accompanied by plenty of wine and live music.
