Lively Malé proves that you don’t need alcohol to have a good night out in the Maldives. The Jazz Café (Haveeree Hingun) hosts live performances and serves up tasty coffees. There are cinemas in the city too, and for sporting enthusiasts, the Maldives National Stadium (Majeedhee Magu Rd) is the go-to spot for football and cricket matches.
Often catering solely to overseas visitors, the Maldives’ resorts provide a range of entertainment options. Some of the bigger resorts are even known for throwing large parties with world-renowned DJs.
Kurumba Maldives (Vihamanaafushi, North Malé Atoll) is a big resort with a nightly entertainment schedule that ranges from blues concerts to DJ nights.
The large resort of Niyama (set on twin islands dubbed Play and Chill) creates its own style of Maldives nightlife at its wide range of on-site restaurants and bars with varying themes. Choose from Subsix, an underwater venue used for both champagne breakfasts and club nights, or the overwater Edge restaurant and chill-out lounge.
If you’d rather be higher up, then hop in the lift and head for rooftop bar, Fahrenheit, which offers spectacular views through its transparent walls, plus beats from live DJs.
