Summer nights out in Malta don’t come much prettier than in Spinola Bay. As dusk falls, St Julian’s graciously curving waterfront is transformed into a sparkling sea of lights. The nightlife here caters to a more mature audience who nevertheless enjoy lively bars such as Saddles (Main Street) and Ryan’s Pub (Triq Wied Ghomor).
Classy outfits such as Tiffany (Portomaso Marina complex) and the beachside Bedouin Bar (Westin Dragonara Resort) are perfect for whiling away Malta’s midnight hours sipping champagne cocktails and bobbing away to a mixture of jazz, blues and chilled-out beats.
Just a 10-15 minute walk north of St Julian’s, Paceville is the place where the rowdiest of Malta’s night owls flock. Raucous Malta entertainment can be found in the district’s strip bars and clubs serving pint-sized cocktails.
For 20-something party animals, nightlife in Malta doesn’t get any better than this. Head to St George’s Road for the biggest clubs, which attract famous international DJs to Malta and offer a mixture of sounds – from hip hop to heavy metal.
Somewhere between St Julian’s upmarket entertainment and the 24-hour hedonism of Paceville are northern Malta’s lively resorts of Bugibba, Qawra and St Paul’s Bay.
Popular with British tourists during the summer, they’re well stocked with lively clubs, homely pubs and karaoke bars. Of all Malta’s nightlife and entertainment areas, these resorts are the most popular with families, for whom a boogie in a karaoke bar or a sunset stroll along the promenade is just the ticket after a day of fun in the sun.
