Sun-kissed Ibiza manages to be many different things all at once. It’s a hangout for celebrities, asana-obsessed yogis and free-thinking bohemians. It’s the nerve centre of electronic dance music. And it’s a pocket of pure Mediterranean bliss.
Time to party
If you’re keen to get in on the clubbing action during your Ibiza holiday, look for a package deal to Ibiza in San Antonio, Playa d’en Bossa or Ibiza Town. These are among the liveliest spots on the island. All three resorts are jam-packed with bars and restaurants as well as a few well-known super clubs, where household-name DJs are all set to entertain thousand-strong crowds during the 2024 Ibiza holiday season.
Ibiza has holidays for both tight-budgeted and deep-pocketed travellers, with accommodation options running the gamut from cheap and cheerful rooms to all-inclusive Ibiza resorts.
Holidays in Ibiza don’t have to be about raving. Sample the other side of the party scene at mellow beach bars where chilled-out trance beats provide the soundtrack for a barefoot and beautiful holiday crowd to socialise and sip summery cocktails.
You need never see a shot glass or strobe light if you don’t want to. Ibiza Town, with its whitewashed historic quarter, ramparts and cathedral, serves up a healthy portion of heritage for culturally curious holidaymakers, while the kiddie-friendly Santa Eulalia resort on the north of the island is the go-to spot for family holidays in Ibiza.
Hidden Ibiza
Tranquillity seekers planning to leave their dancing shoes at home should head to the north of the island, to low-key resorts such as San Miguel or Portinatx. The north coast is also home to many calas (beaches) that lay all but empty, even during high season.
If you want to shake off the crowds entirely, find yourself a luxury Ibiza holiday villa in the interior of the island, where tiny hamlets, such as San Mateo and Santa Inés, remain stubbornly unchanged, paying no heed to the influx of tourists that swarm to the south.
Away from the sun lounger
Swimming and sunning yourself is all part of the Ibiza holiday package, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be confined to the sun lounger. Even the laziest travellers can be tempted by a hike or bike ride along jaw-droppingly scenic coastal routes. Or, if the call of the beach is simply too strong, hop on a ferry to Ibiza’s snoozing sister island, Formentera, and daydream away an afternoon on sugary beaches.
Should you need more stimulation, the waters surrounding the island are a good place to start. Make like Marty McFly and try skimming over the waves on a hoverboard, or plunge into the sea from the vertiginous cliffs. Ibiza’s all-inclusive resorts often throw in an array of adrenaline-fuelled water sports too.
