For fun, lively pubs and hip, happening clubs, head to the main resort towns such as Lloret de Mar, La Pineda and the upmarket marina town of Empuriabrava, where seafront establishments offer drinks and pumping music and everything points to a jolly good time.
For something more chilled, try fishing towns and villages such as Tossa de Mar, El Port de La Selva, Begur, Palafrugell, Figueras and Cadaqués.
Here, you’ll have the chance to sit back with a local tipple or a fruity cocktail and watch the little boats chug in and out of the harbours.
In Cadaqués, you’ll also find the famous, brooding L’Hostal jazz club, once frequented by the likes of Salvador Dalí and Mick Jagger.
Girona’s nightlife scene is modern and vibrant.
Spend evenings wandering around sampling bite-sized tapas and local beers in the bars and clubs around Rambla de la Llibertat and Plaça de Independéncia.
If you still have the energy, you can move on to a late-night disco. Just don’t go early – the locals wouldn’t go near a nightclub until at least midnight.
On balmy summer evenings, head to the beautiful gardens of Parc de la Devesa where you will find trendy pop-up bars.
