Summer days are hot in Dalyan. Between June and September, the mercury soars to 30C and above, with peaks of around 35C in July and August. So you might want to consider an air-conditioned room if you plan to stay in Dalyan at the height of summer. Many people also head to Dalyan during the months of April, May, October and November, when temperatures are more comfortable at around 22-25C.

Dalyan has much to offer to holidaymakers looking for a break from the norm in Turkey. Here are just a few ideas

Kids and teens: Boat trips run regularly from Dalyan, travelling downriver and past the cliff-side tombs, to land on the shores of Iztuzu/Turtle Beach. It is a thrilling 30-minute journey, after which you can simply flop on the sands and soak up the plentiful sunshine. Beach markers show you where turtle nesting sites are, so you don't need to worry about disturbing these amazing sea creatures.

Grown-up families: The cliff faces above Dalyan River are home to fascinating Lycian tombs carved into the rock some 2,500 years ago. Boat trips can be arranged just to see these manmade marvels. But why not take a trip that also offers time in the ancient city of Kaunos, which is just across the river and boasts spectacular theatre ruins?

Relaxing: The shores of Lake Koycegiz are mere moments from Dalyan. Simply hop aboard another boat to get to the lake, where you can slather your body in the thick, warm mud. Then wait, wash off in the thermal springs and admire your rejuvenated skin.
