Standing side by side on the main strip of beach, two hotels in Paphos stake a claim as the best in Cyprus, and both are part of the prestigious Thanos group.
Hip Almyra attracts a cool crowd, but this is one hotel that's definitely suitable for all the family. Neighbouring Annabelle is the oldest of the group, with British guests coming for the beautiful on-site gardens and impeccable service.
A little farther along this stretch of beach is the pleasant four-star Panareti resort.
New on the Paphos hotel scene is Amphora, a stylish, minimalist complex that is already being tipped as one of the best hotels in Paphos. Overlooking the old medieval fort and fishing harbour, it's set on the main beach strip, with access to its own swathe of coastline.
For the ultimate in resort hotels, try the Intercontinental Aphrodite Hills. This five-star property is set 20 kilometres (12 miles) south of the main strip and comes with all the benefits of being away from the main sprawl of hotels. This area is green and idyllic, for one thing, while the hotel has village-style buildings that mimic traditional Cypriot design. There are also golf holes, tennis courts and five on-site restaurants.
On the other side of Paphos, between the Tomb of the Kings and the archaeological park, there are a few more handsome properties, including the appropriately named Elysium, which is reached via drawbridge, and has more than 200 rooms and four restaurants.
Many of the hotels already mentioned offer great amenities for family visitors, with plenty of all-inclusive deals available in 2018 to ease the burden on tired mums and dads.
There are plenty of three-star family resorts around Paphos too, that lighten the load on the bank balance. Expect swimming pools, some facilities for the kids and a bit more of a stripped-back feel than at the five-star hotels. Plenty of Cypriot charm can make up for this.
There’s a range of three-star cheap hotels as well as homely guesthouses dotted in and around the town.
Although not on the main strip, you’ll find a number of romantic inns and bed and breakfasts in the pretty old town. If it’s a cheap Paphos hotel you’re after, there are plenty of deals to be had, especially if you book well in advance.
It isn’t cheap, but the lovely Coral Beach Hotel and Resort has fantastic deals if you get in there quick.
Based near the fabled Coral Bay, this property boasts magnificent views over the mountains and sea, a complete spa and even an arts and crafts workshop for kids and adults alike. Paphos itself is an easy drive away.
Even if you plump for an all-inclusive hotel in Paphos, you should try some of the local restaurants. Recommendations can be found on our eating out in Paphos page.
