Paphos is home to all manner of holiday properties, so you needn't fret about finding the perfect accommodation.

If all you want to do is lounge by the pool and enjoy the sun, you'll find many a resort in Paphos catering to your every whim.

There are some impressive four-star and five-star Paphos hotels to consider at the top end of the scale. At the other end of the market, there are plenty of cheap hotels that provide a basic base for your beach holiday.

Standing side by side on the main strip of beach, two hotels in Paphos stake a claim as the best in Cyprus, and both are part of the prestigious Thanos group.

Hip Almyra attracts a cool crowd, but this is one hotel that's definitely suitable for all the family. Neighbouring Annabelle is the oldest of the group, with British guests coming for the beautiful on-site gardens and impeccable service.

A little farther along this stretch of beach is the pleasant four-star Panareti resort.

New on the Paphos hotel scene is Amphora, a stylish, minimalist complex that is already being tipped as one of the best hotels in Paphos. Overlooking the old medieval fort and fishing harbour, it's set on the main beach strip, with access to its own swathe of coastline.

For the ultimate in resort hotels, try the Intercontinental Aphrodite Hills. This five-star property is set 20 kilometres (12 miles) south of the main strip and comes with all the benefits of being away from the main sprawl of hotels. This area is green and idyllic, for one thing, while the hotel has village-style buildings that mimic traditional Cypriot design. There are also golf holes, tennis courts and five on-site restaurants.

On the other side of Paphos, between the Tomb of the Kings and the archaeological park, there are a few more handsome properties, including the appropriately named Elysium, which is reached via drawbridge, and has more than 200 rooms and four restaurants.
