There are plenty of them, as well as a host of attractions, such as the Castel dell’Ovo, one of the world’s oldest fortifications. The views of Mount Vesuvius are spectacular here too.

The areas of San Ferdinando and Chiaia are both good options if you want luxury by the bay as well as easy access to the highlights of the historic centre. It takes 15-30 minutes to saunter in on foot. Hotels in these neighbouring districts feature a wealth of amenities, such as swimming pools, roof terraces, pleasant gardens and fine-dining eateries.

The areas of Posillipo and Mergellina are a little further south-west of the main city sprawl. While there are some terrific hotels at tempting prices, it can take up to an hour on public transport to reach the historic centre.

Just to the east of the historic centre is Central Station, the city’s major rail hub. Some of Naples’ best cheap hotels can be found in this area, with a clutch of good-value, clean and basic guesthouses catering to travellers on a budget.
